Peach guitars, Colchester’s high-end guitar specialist, was the victim of an audacious theft on the afternoon of 20th February, when an £11,000 PRS Private Stock guitar was stolen in broad daylight, with staff and customers just feet away. Peach’s Will Hubbard told MIN that the couple shown in the video, were let into the store by a member of staff. The man purchased a packet of strings and later took the guitar from the wall before concealing it beneath his female accomplice’s coat.
The guitar (serial number 238755) will not be easy to re-sell, if that was the thieves’ intention, not least because it features a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard which means it will require CITES paperwork to sell on legally.
Similar thefts have taken place over the past decades and the MIA has warned shops to be on the lookout for suspicious customers.
Peach is offering a £1,000 reward for the recovery of the PRS and the video, posted on YouTube and widely circulated on social media, has attracted tens of thousands of viewers.
