Hamstead Soundworks, the UK amplifier maker that arrived to instant acclaim from the consumer reviewers and pro users in 2012, has launched new Mk II head and 1×12 combo versions of its Artist series.
Designers Peter Hamstead and Jim Bird, have had additional input on the designs from Daniel Steinhardt of ‘The GigRig’ and ‘That Pedal Show’ fame and the results can found in the Artist Mk II models.
The upgraded range comprises the standard Artist 20 and the flagship Artist 20+RT models, the latter including Hamstead’s in-house designed Reverb and Tremolo effects.
The Artist 20 MKII is a single channel, switchable 12-20 Watt RMS, class AB workhorse guitar amplifier, powered by two EL84 valves, with ECC83 pre-amp valves.
The Artist 20+RT MKII model also includes the company’s own signature spring reverb and tremolo circuits, with Reverb Depth & Tone controls, and Tremolo Depth & Speed controls – the same tremolo circuit that inspired Hamstead’s popular stand-alone tremolo pedal.
Hamstead says: “Lower powered guitar amplifiers are as popular as ever, but are often lacking when it comes to enough clean headroom. It is here where the Artist 20 MK II Series excels. New features include a Clean Gain switch which lowers the preamp gain offering ample headroom whilst providing a clean canvas for effects.”
In addition to enthusiastic reviews, Hamstead has gained an enviable roster of professional users including Carl Veryahen, James Bay, Hugo White (Maccabees), Jaimie McCredie (Roisin Murphy) and Rupert Fenn (Will Young and Olly Murs).
RRPs range from £1,499 for the 20 Watt Artist Mk II Head to £1,899 for the Artist 20 + RT combo. Info: www.hamsteadsoundworks.com
