New cymbals from Paiste

Paiste has unveiled a raft of new products at NAMM including the 900 Series, Color Sound 900, PST X DJ’s 45 Set, Masters Series.

The 900 Series are modestly priced and have an innovative design that provides the cymbals with greater flexibility, resulting in a giving feel and outstanding playability, Paiste says. The overall sound is ‘warm and full with subdued, discreet brightness’.
Available models:
Crash Cymbals – 16″, 17″, 18″, 19″ and 20″ in Medium and Heavy
Ride Cymbals: 20″ and 22“ in Medium and Heavy, plus a Heavy 24” Mega Ride
Hi-hats: 14″ in Medium and Heavy, 14” Sound Edge in Medium, 15” in Heavy
FX Cymbals: 10″ and 12″ Splashes, 14″, 16″ and 18″ Chinas

Paiste’s Color Sound 900 cymbals are based on the range of models in the 900 Series. While they feature corresponding sound and function, the colour coating causes a slightly drier sound, shortens the sustain, and results in a more focused attack, the maker claims. Paiste first pioneered colour coated cymbals in 1984 and continue to feature the technique in Artist Inspiration models such as Stewart Copeland’s Blue Bell Ride, Aquiles Priester’s Giga Bell Ride and Danny Carey’s Dry Heavy Ride. Luminous translucent colours preserve the natural appearance of grooves and hammer marks and present a vibrant appearance. The Color Sound finish is tough and durable – it will not ever crack, chip or peel, Paiste claims.

The PST X DJs 45 Set was created in collaboration with Daru Jones, whose church gospel roots led him to the status of being a sought-after drummer and producer/musical director in the hip-hop, soul and rock scene, working with the likes of Jack White. This cymbal set is highly portable with fast and dry sounds.
Available models:
12” Crash Cymbal
12” Ride Cymbal (vinyl design)
12” Hi-hat

Finally, the Masters series is a collection of exquisite and laboriously hand-crafted cymbals made of CuSn20 bronze. ‘These dynamic cymbals share a soft, buttery feel and a fairly short, unobtrusive and controllable character.’ Paiste says. ‘A fine, silvery stick sound combines with warm, deep, complex, multi-layered washes. Each model functions equally well as a ride, crash or mallet cymbal’.
Available models:
Multi Crash/Rides – 20”, 22”, 24” Thin
Hi-hats – 14”, 15”, 16” Thin
Swish – 22” developed with cymbal master Jim Keltner
