US string maker Dean Markley has launched its Blackhawk range of coated strings for acoustic and electric guitars.
For acoustic instruments Blackhawk strings come in 80/20 bronze, comprising 80% copper and 20R zinc. The maker describes them as making, ‘…a bold statement with a crisp, deep tone that’s ideal for recording.’

Also on offer is the Blackhawk Phosphor Bronze series made from 92% copper and 8% tin.
Blackhawk electric sets feature wound strings with hexagonal cores made of high-carbon steel, ‘…providing superior strength and unparalleled pitch stability’. Dean Markley says.
No information was provided on the coating method the manufacturer is using but the company does say: ‘It’s hard to believe, let alone see, that these strings are coated when a digital micrometer is used to measure the drastically reduced thickness.’
