Winter NAMM 2019 Roundup: Orange

Orange proved that it’s quality rather than quantity that counts at NAMM by launching just two products both very well considered for current market trends.

Orange’s first newcomer plays to guitarists whose idea of amplification is to plug their vast pedal boards straight into a power amp, or even a PA. It might be a far cry from the ’boutique valve amp’ market but it has been a round a few years now and its number of adherents seems to be growing, Enter the Orange Pedal Baby 100, a 100 Watt class A/B power amplifier, designed for the touring musician. Said to be ‘neutral-sounding but still flattering’, it’s designed for guitarists running pedal boards, modellers or digital processors. ‘Light, compact and built for the road; fly dates and changing venues are all taken in its stride,’ Orange says.

Of course the vintage style boutique valve amp market is far from moribund and Orange paid it tribute with the perfectly judged TremLord 30, which it announced with the slogan ‘The Amp They Never Made – Until Today!’.

The TremLord 30 is a 30w 1×12 all valve guitar combo with built-in valve driven tremolo and reverb. EL84 valves give the TremLord plenty of clean headroom, making it the perfect platform for all guitar pedals. A valve Tremolo with two foot switchable speeds offer versatile depth control and the amp also features a two spring reverb tank offering masses of reverb: ‘….with springs that can be heard, making it deeper, splashier and crashier,’ Orange says.

Other features include a postptremolo FX loop allowing players to use proper, built-in tremolo anywhere in a modern FX chain, a.Lavoce 12” speaker and a Headroom (30/15 Watts) or Bedroom (2 Watts/1 Watt) Switch for practice or recording at low volume levels.
