San Marcos CA based Sheptone has won a serious following in the USA for its vintage inspired boutique pickups. Latest in the company’s range is the new 53mm Upshot bridge humbucker, incorporating, the maker says, modern design ideas to deliver vintage style tone.
Handmade in the U.S.A. with AlNiCo 5 magnets and 42 plain enamel wire, the new Upshot, in common with Sheptone’s humbuckers generally, features a slightly wider coil. which gives a dc reading of around 9.3, the maker says. Being a four wire humbucker, instead of the vintage two wire type, it allows players to split coils – further expanding their tone pallet. Another unique feature of the Upshot is its short feet. Shorter feet are better suited for the sleeker, low-profile guitar models that today’s customers are seeking and guitar builders are making.
