Rare ’88 ‘Stones’ Music Man could star at next auction

Corsham, Wilts based auctioneer Gardiner Houlgate continues to carve out a reputation for itself as the go-to place for secondhand guitar auctions and December’s sale has a number of lots likely to get collectors salivating. Although none of the 300 plus items has the ‘Eric Clapton’s lost ukulele’ appeal of some previous sales, attention is likely to focus on a rare 1988 Music Man Silhouette, fitted with a Glaser B Bender. Complete with its hard case, this US-made Music Man was apparently bought from Chandler Guitars in Kew and was sold by Jesse Wood (Ronnie’s son) leading to surmise that it might once have been played by Ronnie Wood and/or Keith Richards.  Both Wood and Richards are Known to have played Music Man Silhouettes on the 1989 Steel Wheels album and on the subsequent tours.

Gardiner Houlgate has estimated a sale price of £1,500 to £2,500. A Buyer’s premium of 24% applies.

Other items that might garner major interest include a 1958 Hofner Committee, a 1950s/60s Framus Billy Lorento, a 1930s Rickenbacker Premiervox electric lap steel, a 1964 Gretsch Country Gentleman, a 1966 Fender Coronado, several Ibanez models of various ages and styles and a clutch of Deans. there are also vintage amps from the likes of Marshall, Mesa Boogie and others.

The line-up will be available for public viewing on Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th December – 9am – 5.30pm. Thursday 14th December – 8.30am – 11am, following which the auction starts.
